INSTAGRAM TRANSCRIPT · TROUBLESHOOTING
Why is my Instagram transcript empty?
Save the Instagram video to your device, upload its audio or video file, and check that the file has audible speech and browser-prepared audio of 20 MiB or smaller; the tool returns editable text, plus SRT when timing is available.
1. The saved file cannot be read
A damaged file, an unsupported browser decoder, or a video without an audio track cannot provide audio for transcription.
Play the saved file on your device before you retry. If it does not play there, save a working file that you are allowed to process.
2. The selected file is not the file you expected
Choose the saved audio or video file that contains the spoken material you want to transcribe. A separate file can play normally but contain different audio or no audio.
For a fuller file checklist, read Instagram Reel file not working.
3. The prepared audio is over 20 MiB
Your browser prepares the file’s speech audio before transcription. That prepared audio must be 20 MiB or smaller.
A source file can exceed 20 MiB when the browser-prepared mono audio remains 20 MiB or smaller.
Try a shorter saved file with the same speaker or topic. The Instagram Reel video size limit guide explains this check.
4. There is no usable speech in the audio
Speech-to-text can only return words it can recognize. A music-only file, silence, heavy background noise, speech hidden by music, or a very brief phrase can produce an empty or nearly empty result.
Text displayed inside the video is different from speech. The transcriber listens to the audio track; it does not read title cards, stickers, usernames, or subtitle text that appears only on screen.
Retry in this order
- Play the saved file on your device and confirm that it contains audible speech.
- Choose the intended audio or video file.
- Upload the selected file to the Instagram transcript tool.
- If the tool reports a size issue, select a shorter saved file.
- For an empty result, listen for clear spoken words rather than relying on music or on-screen text.
Quick answers
Can a saved Reel file still return no text?
Yes. The result can still be empty when there is no usable speech or when prepared audio exceeds the 20 MiB processing limit.
Does the tool read visible captions?
No. It recognizes spoken audio and does not extract words that exist only in the picture.
What file should I upload?
Upload the saved audio or video file that contains the speech you want to transcribe.
